Customize and Print: Two-Sided Emergency Checklist for Your Kneeboard
A new Emergency Checklist template is now available under the Customize and Print section of GA Kneeboard.
During an in-flight emergency, elevated cockpit workload and stress make navigating multi-layered tablet menus or flipping through a bulky POH impractical. This template provides a dedicated two-sided quick reference sheet designed to be printed, laminated, and kept clipped directly on your kneeboard.
Front (Side A): Large Print for Immediate Action
The front side is formatted in a very large, high-contrast font so key steps can be read instantly in low light, heavy turbulence, or smoke.
It focuses strictly on the three most time-critical in-flight emergencies:
- Engine Failure: Immediate glide and restart verification—Best Glide (68 kts), Fuel Pump ON, Mixture RICH, Fuel Shutoff ON, and Fuel Selector BOTH.
- Engine Fire: Immediate shutdown and containment—Mixture CUTOFF, Fuel Shutoff OFF, Fuel Pump OFF, Master switches OFF, Cabin Vents/Heat CLOSED, and Emergency Descent at 120 kts in a 30° bank.
- Emergency Landing: Off-field preparation flow—Airspeed trimmed, field selection, declaring Mayday on 121.5 / squawking 7700 / activating ELT, securing seats and harnesses, and unlatching cabin doors prior to touchdown.
Having these three procedures displayed in large print ensures you never have to squint or search for critical memory items when seconds count.
Back (Side B): Comprehensive In-Flight Abnormalities
The reverse side uses a balanced dual-column layout to cover additional emergency and abnormal situations:

- Fires: Dedicated checklists for Electrical Fire, Wing Fire, Cabin Fire, and Engine Fire during engine start (both running and not running).
- Systems & Environment: Inadvertent Icing encounters, Water Ditching configuration, and secondary emergency landing actions.
This side serves as an organized reference for situations where you have established aircraft control and need systematic troubleshooting steps.
Cockpit Recommendation: Print, Laminate, and Clip
To get the most utility from this checklist in the cockpit, we recommend the following workflow:
- Customize to Your Aircraft: Open the template at kneeboard.ga and adjust glide speeds, flap settings, and switch designations to match your specific aircraft POH.
- Print Double-Sided: Print Side A and Side B back-to-back on standard paper or light cardstock sized for your kneeboard clip.
- Laminate for Durability: Laminate the printed sheet. A laminated card withstands cockpit wear, resists sun and moisture, stays rigid under the kneeboard clip, and can be marked with dry-erase pens.
- Keep It Clipped: Clip the card directly onto your kneeboard—either on top of your navigation log or right beneath your current flight sheet—so it remains instantly accessible without unclipping or rummaging through flight bags.
