Introducing Straight-In: Recreational Pilot Lean of Peak EFB
To our GA Kneeboard community,
First, thank you. Your trust in our tools is something we never take for granted. Every time you use a printed kneeboard in the cockpit, we know you are trusting us with your situational awareness and flight safety. Over the past two years, more than 400 pilots have printed thousands of kneeboards using our platform, helping us understand how you manage your cockpit workflow.
For the past several months, we’ve been quietly building and flight-testing something new. We call it Straight-In.
Our goal is simple: to build a distraction-free Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) for recreational pilots.
Why “Straight-In”?
Modern EFBs are powerful, but they have also grown complex. In the cockpit, especially when hand-flying or managing workload, the last thing you want to do is hunt through sub-menus or nested settings. We wanted to design an EFB that gets out of your way: no menus, no clutter—just straight-in to the information you need, when you need it.
We’ve already taken it up in the air. Both VFR and IFR pilots on our team have flown with it, refining the layout and functionality in real-world flight conditions.
What Straight-In Can Do Today
- Geolocated Charts & Plates: View geolocated Sectional Charts, Airport Diagrams, and Instrument Approach Plates directly on the map.
- Departure Procedures: Easily view Departure Plates (note: these do not feature geolocation).
- Checklist Runner: A checklist engine designed to be run easily with one hand, helping you keep your eyes outside.
- Customizable Checklists: Tailor your checklists to match your specific aircraft and flow.
Our Limitations (Where We Stand)
We want to be completely transparent: Straight-In is in its early stages, and we are focusing on depth and stability over wide coverage.
- Coverage: Currently limited to the West Coast (covering 3 sectionals) with a curated, growing list of airports.
- No Low Enroute Charts: We do not support low enroute charts at this time.
We are Looking for 10 Experimenters
Historically, the early adopters of our solutions have helped us shape the products you fly with today. If you’ve been with us for a while, you know we don’t waste your time, and we are responsive to your feedback.
We are looking for 10 pilot experimenters who are willing to:
- Install the app on their iPad.
- Fly with it (or test it in their hangar/home simulator).
- Send us candid feedback on what works and what doesn’t.
We are strictly limiting this first group to 10 spots. We want to make sure we can process, discuss, and implement your feedback promptly and individually.
If you would like to help us test this new tool and shape the future of recreational flying EFBs, please request access below.
